Personality: Death has a very likeable personality, if you ever get the chance to have a conversation with him. Humans paint Death in a macabre fashion, depicting him as the bad guy, the killer of everything. Death is not the bad guy, he is quite the opposite. The most neutral of his ‘siblings’, Death is the one who keeps balance. Death represents order and balance, justice and honor, life and death. Unbiased, Death does not seek people to kill, but instead, seeks to keep the natural order in place. People must die, young and old alike, and Death merely assigns them their time.
Death is honorable, keeping his word on the few occasions he gives it. Though he prides himself as being above mortals, and any other creature due to his number of years in the universe, Death is not above a conversation with anyone. A neutral entity, Death does take sides, though not in the grand scheme of life. While he is willing to help the Winchesters, he does not side with good nor evil, he merely likes the Winchesters.
Calm and collected, Death can be a very rational person. However, it is not impossible to anger him. Death works for himself, and any variation of that will likely upset him. He does not appreciate being bound and chained to do someone else’s will, and will tip the scales in the opposition’s favor if such a thing should happen. Death wishes to just be left alone, until some major catastrophe happens on Earth that requires his attention.
Likes: Reapers, junk food, Dean, Cadillacs, Scythe
Dislikes: Being bound, Lucifer, being the ‘bad guy’, ruining natural order, people running from their reapers
Strengths: Powers, rules the reapers, incredibly intelligent
Weaknesses: Can be bound to someone, can be caged up, it’s rumored his scythe can harm him
Dreams: Natural order falls into perfect balance, to be left free to wander the Earth
Fears: Being caged for another couple centuries, being forced to massacre humans for no reason other than destruction
Darkest Secret: Is actually pretty fond of Dean and his younger brother.
Powers:
Death is possibly the most powerful being on the planet, his only possible match being God, though they have never attempted to see who was stronger.
Immortal – Death cannot die, regardless of any efforts people have used. He may be able to be harmed by his scythe, but nothing can kill him. Death does not age, he is not affected by sickness, pain or fatigue.
Resurrection – Death has the power to bring anything or anyone back from the dead, though he chooses not to use this power as it ruins the Natural Order.
Nigh-Omnipotence – Death can do anything, literally. From controlling objects across the room to killing gods, Death can do it all. He even has powers over natural phenomenas, such as creating a lunar eclipse.
Nigh-omniscience – As Death, he has been around since the beginning of time. Death has always existed and so he knows almost everything about life, the universe, how things came to be and how to destroy them. It is possible for Death to be wrong, though it happens very rarely.
Teleportation – Death can teleport anywhere, instantly. Literally, anywhere. He can go to Heaven or Hell, or in between if he chooses. However, he can only be in one place at one time.
Weather Manipulation – Death can create any sort of weather conditions he wants. From tsunamis to tornados, Death was responsible for the Great Flood, at God’s request.
Flight – Death has the ability to fly.
Killing Touch – Death can kill anything he touches. If brushed by a mortal human, they will fall instantly and die. Death has control over this, if he doesn’t want to kill the person.
Invisibility – Death can only be seen if he wants to be seen. While archangels can sense his presence, they only see him if he chooses.
Superhuman Perception – Death can tell what anything truly is, regardless of how they appear to him or if it is invisible.
Telekinesis – Death has shown to be able to move objects before, even without looking at them.
Terakinesis – Death has the ability to make the ground and everything with it shake.
Thermokinesis – Death can make objects turn hot if he wills it.
History: What is history to someone who has seen it all? What does it matter where a being comes from, when they are not born of flesh and bone? Death appeared, he was neither born nor created, much like God. At one point, they knew who was older, but it has been so long, both beings have forgotten. Death was around as the universe was forming itself, long before life was created. As life came, Death ruled the natural balance, keeping things in order.
At first, it was just him, working alone. As the population began to grow and take up more land, Death created his reapers to assist him. They became almost like his children, and so they all consider Death to be the father of the reapers. Doing his bidding, they helped keep natural order with the powers Death granted them.
Death has witnessed every major disaster since the very beginning. From the Ice Age to the Great Flood and the explosion of Mount Vesuvius, Death has been a part of it all. He is physically present at each major disaster and often-times, is the cause of them. This is done for the Natural Order. To keep the population growing at it’s alarming rate, humans must die, and sometimes, it must be a lot of them. Death never takes lives without knowing that there will be more to replace them.
At some point, the other three Horsemen were created to do their parts in keeping order in the universe. None can control the natural order in the way that Death can, but they each possess their own gifts to contribute. First came War, than Pestilence and Famine. They have been called Death’s ‘brothers’, simply because there is no other way to define them. Together they were named the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with the prophecy they together they will bring about the end of the world. With this reasoning, it is a very bad sign to see even two of them together at the same time.
Much of Death’s life has also been spent locked in a cage, designed by God himself. When let out, Death is watched very carefully, fearful that he may abuse his powers in a divine way, and cause the extinction of all life. So Death waits, until he is called upon to do his job, acting as a servant to God. This is never appreciated by Death, as the horsemen are free to roam freely, doing what they do.
Trapped since the last major disaster, Death was brought back to the universe not by God, but by Lucifer. As Lucifer summoned Death before him, Lucifer stood proudly in Death’s presence, rather than fearful as most creatures are. Binding Death to himself and his will, Lucifer believed himself to have already won the fight against Michael.
As the other Horsemen did what they do best, Death was Lucifer’s puppet, doing the fallen angel’s bidding and threatening to extinguish Chicago entirely. During this time, Death did what was asked of him, all while waiting for the Winchester brothers to come for him. Death observed as they took the power from his siblings, taking their rings. It was only a matter of time before they came for him.
Armed with his own scythe, Dean Winchester came alone, looking to kill Death. Taking back what rightfully belonged to him, Death heated by his scythe until Dean dropped it, before summoning the object to his side. Inviting Dean to dine with him in the little restaurant, Death explained to Dean that he was tied to Lucifer against his will. Rather than fighting the Winchester as the other horsemen had done, Death willingly gave his ring to Dean. Even without his ring, Death retained his powers, unlike his ‘siblings’.
This was the last Death saw of Dean for over a year, until Dean made a foolish plan to kill himself, just to get another meeting with Death. Appearing to Dean, Death was asked if he could retrieve a soul from Hell. Well within his powers, Death forced Dean to wear the ring for one day, a full 24 hours, and see what it was like to do the job of Death. In an effort to teach Dean about the Natural Order, and why Death doesn’t Resurrect people or bring back souls, Death’s reaper, Tessa, observed Dean’s actions. When Dean refused to kill a sick child, others around the child began dying, a result of the natural order being messed up. Dean quickly learned the consequences of being Death, and though he did not wear the ring for a full day, Death decided that Dean had learned he was supposed to learn and went to Hell, bringing Sam’s soul back with him. Warning him of the cautions of putting a damaged soul back into Sam, Death reunited the soul to the body and put up a mental wall to keep Sam from remembering his time in Hell.
Death has yet to meet up with the Winchesters again, though it will happen eventually, as is their destiny to constantly be entwined with supernatural beings. Without being bound to Lucifer or God’s servants, Death is free to roam the universe doing as he pleases, and so he does. Usually appearing only to his reapers, Death is known to appear to mortals and creatures alike, for any number of reasons, even just a conversation.
